The recommended dose to treat mild to moderate malaria in pediatric patients induced by mefloquine-susceptible strains of P. falciparum is twenty (20) to 25 mg/kg based on body weight. The total therapeutic dose can be divided into 2 doses given at 6 to 8 hours apart to reduce the incidence or harshness of side effects. The suggested prophylactic dose of Generic Lariam to treat Malaria Prophylaxis is about 5 mg/kg based on body weight once weekly. Pediatric patients weighing over 45 kg can take one 250 mg Generic Lariam tablet taken once weekly. Pediatric patients weighing less than 45 kg, can take 1/2 tablet weekly.
